Swedish medtech company Diabetes Tools is signaling its intentions towards the American healthcare market by hiring a Senior Director of Business Development for the United States. Industry veteran Björn Nordwall is tasked with engaging the US market about Triabetes™, Diabetes Tools’ patient-centered, online lifestyle decision support service for the control of all forms of diabetes.
“As a company, we are taking our first strategic step towards the US healthcare market by appointing Björn,” said Diabetes Tools’ Chief Executive Officer Anders Weilandt. “His deep understanding of the diabetes treatment and mHealth industries plays into our preparations to extend our market presence to the USA.”
Björn Nordwall comes to Diabetes Tools from business strategy consultants Motion Venture. Before that, Björn was CEO of a wireless chronic disease management startup called Confidant and also held US-based senior marketing positions for Motorola and Ericsson. He starts his role at Diabetes Tools immediately and is located in North Carolina, USA.
Triabetes was made publically available as an Android™ smartphone app and personal online account in Sweden during April 2013. The iPhone™ version followed in August as did a monthly subscription package offering more features called Triabetes+. For diabetes healthcare providers, Triabetes Clinic takes a larger scale approach and is available for integration on request.
From a regulatory perspective, Triabetes is a CE-marked medical software product registered for sale in the European Union. Currently, it is not cleared nor offered for sale in the USA.
