EIT ICT Labs Launches First Pan-European ICT MASTER SCHOOL - Students get double degrees from European top universities

March 6, 2012 – European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) ICT Labs new Master School is launching a degree programme in ICT Innovation, allowing students a double major in one of seven technical areas along with a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

“Our ICT Innovation Masters teaches the most recent developments in ICT,” says Prof. Willem Jonker, CEO of EIT ICT Labs. “In order to fully prepare students for the future the program exposes them to entrepreneurial challenges amongst others via the involvement of our industrial partners.”

A unique, pan-European programme, the EIT ICT Labs’ ICT Innovation Masters gathers top-talented  students from a variety of disciplines and nurtures the budding entrepreneurs with support from executive mentors, guaranteed internships with leading business partners, and a truly mobile education with studies in at least two of the nineteen participating European universities. Prospective students should not only have sound experience in the field of ICT, but they should also have keen interest in turning their skills and knowledge into real, industry-changing innovations.

“It’s a hands-on education,” explains Carl-Gustaf Jansson, Director of EIT ICT Labs Master School. The ICT Innovation programme provides a solid technical education, creates the opportunities for application and encourages international exposition through mobility programmes”

The structure of the programme itself is an innovation upon traditional education systems. Students enter the programme at an entry university of their choice and spend their second, year at a different participating University. Internships with network partners, give students real experience and the opportunity to build corporate contacts. The Management Mentor Programme offers an additional avenue for personalized support and insight from a top European executive. Upon completion of the thesis and graduation, students are awarded an EIT Certificate and a double degree for a Technical major and the Innovation & Entrepreneurship minor.

As prospective student Kalle Tihonen remarks, “Not many programs give you the chance to study in two different EU countries, to learn from executive mentors, and to study technology and innovation at the same time. EIT ICT Labs Master in ICT Innovation does it all.”

The idea of cultivating innovation from the classroom is not new; it is why so many top Universities have on-campus incubators.  However the EIT ICT Labs Master School is the first to take a true pan-European approach combining the strengths and specializations of a network of universities to compete on a global level. With Co-Location Centers in Berlin, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Paris, Stockholm and Trento, the EIT ICT Labs Master School is uniting Europe’s leading universities, research centers and companies to shape the future of the ICT industry.

Applications are currently accepted through the EIT ICT Master Labs website, http://eitictlabs.masterschool.eu/, with the highest ranking students eligible for scholarships or fee waivers.

The first EIT ICT Master class will commence in the fall of 2012.
