Boosting the quality of everyday life by accelerating ICT innovation, is the theme of the first summit of the action line Health & Wellbeing organised by EIT ICT Labs Eindhoven. Around 150 participants from industry, academia and research institutes will attend this international event being held on 12 December 2013, in the Conference and Exhibition Centre at the High Tech Campus, Eindhoven.

The main purpose of the End-of-Year event 2013 is to give maximum showcasing attention to all innovators from the action line’s activities that were accomplished during 2013 as well as to showcase the products of the companies of the Health & Wellbeing Business Community that is part of EIT ICT Labs. Innovation, business and societal impact results of activities will be showcased. Furthermore this is a chance to network and expand the community. In a parallel session the activities and start-ups give 10-minute presentations in which they will pitch their business cases.

Connection to Brainport region

EIT ICT Labs is located in Stockholm, Berlin, Helsinki, Trento, Paris and last but not least in Eindhoven in the Brainport region. The pan-European character of EIT ICT Labs is thus evident and is an essential ingredient to achieving results that address societal challenges throughout Europe. In a global world, ICT is a crucial key enabling technology for Europe’s industrial and societal future: industry which is strong in ICT-innovations is a prerequisite for maintaining a competitive position. On 12 December the High Tech Campus will be a pan-European market place to showcase results, networking and sustaining the Health & Wellbeing ecosystem in the Brainport region. That this event is valuable for the Brainport region is illustrated by the fact that Rob van Gijzel, Mayor of Eindhoven, will give a welcome keynote.

With an ageing population and growing consumer empowerment, the call for a user-centric approach towards health and wellbeing is imperative; especialy if enabled and supported by innovative and entrepreneurial ICT. Improving the quality of everyday life and sustaining a healthy lifestyle in the context of Ambient Assisted Living and Active Healthy Ageing is crucial if we want to work longer and take care that we can live longer on our own, in our own homes. ICT Innovations are enablers and need to realise this.
