Mentice and Barrier Technologies join forces to present radiation safety solutions at SIR 2017

Press Release   •   Feb 22, 2017 08:42 GMT

Mentice will be demonstrating its ‘Radiation Safety’ software, an add-on compatible with all Mentice endovascular training software modules. Running a Mentice module with this software provides live—yet fully simulated and safe—heatmap visualizations of patient and operator exposure. Other live readings include air kerma, KAP, ESD, PSD.

Barrier Technologies will be presenting its complete portfolio of Radiation Protection products, showcasing their unique Terminator XR™ body encapsulating Radiation Protective device. This device will enable Interventionalists to shed their heavy aprons in favor of a height-adjustable panel behind which they would stand.

“Our joint presence at SIR 2017 is a valuable opportunity for interventional radiologists and those working in fluoroscopy,” says Hiral Chavda, Marketing Communications Manager at Mentice. “We all know more needs to be done to educate operators in how to minimize exposure for themselves and patients. By using the Radiation Safety software, operators can optimize their exposure reduction skills in a completely safe, radiation-free environment.”

Commenting on the joint presence at SIR 2017, Dr. Marc Glickman, Managing Director of Barrier Technologies, says: “Realistic training is a cost-effective and safe way to learn about the risks of exposure—and how best to avoid them by, among other things, selecting and using appropriate protective wear and shielding.”

Mentice will be presenting at booth 302 and Barrier Technologies will be beside them at booth 300 at SIR 2017, the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology. The event is being held March 4-9 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
