Italian wine company Pasqua becomes Altia’s new Nordic partner

Altia and the Italian wine company Pasqua are expanding their cooperation to the Swedish market, where Italian wines have gained more and more popularity since 2010. The cooperation agreement makes Pasqua one of the most important partner brand at Altia.

Altia has entered into a substantial cooperation agreement with Pasqua, the largest privately owned wine company in Italy. Previously, Altia has acted as the Pasqua representative in Finland, Norway and the travel retail market. The new agreement will expand the cooperation to Sweden, making Pasqua one of Altia’s biggest partner brands in the region.

Pasqua is among the best known Italian wine producers in the Nordic countries.

“We are really excited to embark on work with Pasqua’s great products. Our aim is to increase the demand for Pasqua wines, strengthen their foothold in the Nordic countries and include more and more products in the selection,” Søren Qvist, SVP Partner & International Business at Altia says.

The new agreement is in line with Altia’s strategic goal of focusing on key brands within its entire operating region.

“As a large part of our operations include the Nordic monopoly markets, having the leading products of each category in our selection is of immense importance. We believe we can help Pasqua become the regional market leader,” Qvist says.

Demand for Italian red wines has almost doubled in Sweden since 2010

Italian wines have become increasingly popular in Sweden in recent years, sparkling prosecco and red wines in particular. The demand for Italian red wines has almost doubled in Sweden since 2010 and their annual sales volumes can reach 41 million litres. Last year, the market share of Italian wines was 27 per cent of all wines sold in Sweden. In red wines, the share was as high as 39 per cent.

The cooperation agreement will become effective on 1 February. Besides Pasqua, Altia’s biggest partner brands include Brown-Forman (USA), Constellation (USA), Distell (South Africa) and Grupo Codorníu (Spain).
