Biggest esports event of 2019 in Brazil: MIBR and Astralis collide in Sao Paulo

National TV Station Globo describes BLAST Pro Series as "2019's biggest esports event in Brazil".

On March 22nd and 23rd the first ever South American version of the global Counter-Strike tournament will be played in Sao Paulo, where home town favourites and national heroes MIBR will challenge the world's number 1 team Astralis.

4 more teams will be announced over the coming days. Ticket sales open Friday.

The all Brazilian roster of MIBR have never won a big tournament on home turf and throughout 2018 the team repeatedly lost important games to Astralis. They will, however, have the opportunity to change everyting when both teams will battle it out live on stage in Ibirapuera Arena on March 22nd and 23rd.

The two teams have faced off on many occasions, also at the first ever BLAST Pro Series tournament in 2017 in Copenhagen. In the Grand Final of that tournament the Brazilians beat the home town favourites in front of 12.000 fans. This was a big win for 'FalleN', 'coldzera' and 'taco' of the Brazilian team, but it was certainly also a big defeat for the Danish side on home turf.

The loss in the Grand Final is something Astralis' In-Game Leader Lukas 'gla1ve' Rossander still clearly remembers:

- It was one of the biggest tournaments of the year for us, and we wanted to win so badly. The arena was packed with 12.000 Astralis fans and everybody was cheering for us. We played really well but also have to admit that the our opponents were the better side. We have a huge respect for the Brazilian line up, and eventhough we're rivals on stage, we have a great relationship with them outside the game.

- I know how big and exciting an experience it is to play in front of a crazy homecrowd, and I know how MIBR will feel on stage in Ibirapuera Arena. Our goal is always to win no matter who we face, but to play against the new all brazilian MiBR roster in front of thousands of cheering brazilian fans will be such a different experience. Hopefully we can do our best and have some payback from 2017, Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander comments.

Tickets for BLAST Pro Series São Paulo will be available from February 1 via BLASTProSeries.com/saopaulo.
