Fjällräven Classic - The world's largest trekking event has started – and celebrates its 10th anniversary

Ready... set... and trek! The Fjällräven Classic, the largest trekking event in the world has now started. More than 2,000 participants from 30 countries around the globe have gathered in Kiruna, northern Sweden, for the official start in Nikkaluokta on Friday 8th August. First held in 2005, the popular trekking festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

“It is amazing to see people from all over the world set out on this multi-day adventure”, says Andreas Cederlund, event manager at Fjällräven.

The Fjällräven Classic is an event that turns the traditional mountain trek into a folk festival, high in the mountains of Swedish Lapland. The route covers 110 kilometres along the classic Kungsleden trail, starting in the Sami village of Nikkaluokta and ending in Abisko. The participants carry their own equipment and sleep in their own tents under the light summer sky. During the trek they pass through a number of checkpoints where they can replenish their food and gas supplies, take a sauna or consult a medic.

The Fjällräven Classic is for everyone: young and old; those who like to speed through life as well as those who like to stroll gently; experienced trekkers and curious beginners.

More than 120 volunteers work during Fjällräven Classic. They have travelled from across the Sweden and even from abroad to help out during the event.
