Press release -

Powerboat driver Marit Strømøy is ambassador for Glamox at Nor-Shipping

With the victory against 16 male competitors in a Formula 1 boat race in Sharjah Grand Prix in 2015 Marit Strømøy became history. Not only was it her first victory, she also became the first woman ever to win a Formula 1 race.

Marit Strømøy has been an active boat race driver for 28 years. Since 2007 she has competed in the F1 World Powerboat Championship (F1H2O). She continues to be the only woman in this extreme sport. One month before her next race (Grand Prix of France), Strømøy will represent Glamox at this year’s Nor-Shipping fair in Oslo.

“Nor-Shipping will be a new experience for me and I look forward to it. Glamox manufactures maritime products of high quality, something which is also important in powerboat racing, so in that respect we have something in common”, Strømøy says.

According to Strømøy it takes more than just good equipment to achieve good results in Formula 1. It demands great physical strength to handle up to 8 g in the turns. This is why Strømøy works out once or twice every day. Mental toughness and tactical proficiency is also important.

“It’s a common opinion that motor sports first and foremost demand a lot of money, but in Formula 1 you can’t buy your way to good results. This is a consolation to those of us who are privately financed in a world full of government-funded contestants”, Strømøy says.

That being said, the boat is of course a crucial part of the sport. Anyone who wants to take a closer look at the 490 kg tunnel hull catamaran with its 400 HP and a top speed of around 250 km/h, may do so at the Glamox stand during Nor-Shipping.
