Press release -

Both praise and criticism when educational science subjects were evaluated

The Higher Swedish Educational Authority awards three of five evaluations within educational science at the University of Gävle high quality and tow receives the grade lacking quality in the national quality evaluation.

Nationally, totally 39 comparable subjects have been evaluated in this round. In pedagogics on bachelor level 7 pit of 14 evaluated has been judged to have deficiencies.

The evaluation does not concern the teacher educations

It is not the teacher educations that have been evaluated now; those programmes will be evaluated separately at a later time.

The Higher Swedish Educational Authority (UKÄ) has evaluated didactics on bachelor and master level, pedagogics on bachelor and master level as well as drama pedagogics on bachelor level. The results were high quality, except for pedagogics on bachelor level and didactics on master
level where the UKÄ has found deficiencies.

- The UKÄ’s evaluations is an important part in our quality work and we will of course take the actions which are necessary, says head of department Åke Tilander.

- One has to keep in mind that it is not that we have failed, but the UKÄ has pointed out certain deficiencies that we are to correct within a year.

Drama pedagogics receives the grade high quality

- It is with satisfaction that I note that UKÄ has now confirmed that the students who are studying drama pedagogics at the University of Gävle are taking part in an education of high quality, says Birgitta Silfver, responsible for the subject drama pedagogics.

- Learning within, through and with drama pedagogics is different from learning processes in other subjects through the artistic process where the shaping of knowledge, experience and opinion forms into a dialog with the medium.
