Engineering trainees build solar-cell-powered charging stations for electric cars

26 upper secondary school pupils from the whole region have during eight days worked as engineering trainees at the University of Gävle. They have completed this year’s project: solar-cell-powered charging stations for electric cars. On 22 June, the exhibition was opened.

Trying out the engineering profession

For the second year in a row, upper secondary pupils get the opportunity to try out the engineering profession at the University of Gävle. They have completed this year’s project, solar-cell-powered charging stations for electric cars on campus.

“The purpose of the project ‘Engineering trainee’ is to give the pupils increased understanding for the engineering profession and the technical programmes at the University of Gävle. Concrete work tasks within the technological fields of the University are chosen to give the pupils an increased understanding for the technology and its applications,” says Magnus Lemoine, project leader for “The Hunt for Technicians.”

The upper secondary school pupils have in only eight days planned and constructed the charging station, and solar panels on the roof will produce electricity for the charging station and an adjacent building on campus.
