Focus on learning - a series of lectures

During the autumn the department for educational sciences at the University of Gävle will organising a number of open lectures given by internationally renowned lecturers.

Several guest professors/researchersare coming to the University of Gävle this autumn. In connection with their visits they are giving lectures that are open to anybody who is interested.

Göran Fransson, Associate Professor of Pedagogy, lecturer in didactics and one of the people responsible for the lecture series, was asked the following questions:

What do you hope these lectures will achieve?
“This is a part of the endeavour to establish a third research profile at the University of Gävle.

We are expanding our network and perspective. We would also like the lecturers to receive insight into the ongoing and planned research the University of Gävle.

What will the lectures be about?
There is a variation of focus on education and learning from an international perspective, for example on teacher training in different countries, teacher professionalism and IT in education and learning.

Who are the target group?
We are mostly targeting people who teach or do research, are interested in these issues and would like to be simulated and challenged to develop their thinking.

Sheryl Lynn

On the 7th of September Professor Cheryl Craig, University of Houston, USA, will lecture on the topic: "Teacher Education: An International Perspective"

Professor Craig’s research concerns understanding life as a teacher.

Geert Kelchtermans

On the 14th of September Professor Geert Kelchtermans, University of Leuven, Belgium, will lecture on the topic: "Professionalism in teaching and the teacher"

Professor Kelchterman’s research concerns the work of teachers, schools and teacher training in general.

Tomas Englund

On the 10th of October Professor Tomas Englund, Örebro University will lecture on the topic "Curriculum Theory past, present and future"

Tomas Englund researches, amongst other things, curricula, issues on democracy and the right to participation.

Tomas Ryberg

On the 23rd of November Professor Tomas Ryberg, Ålborgs University, Denmark will lecture on the subject ”Tensions and contradictions: Networked Learning in Higher Education amongst students and teachers”

Tomas Ryberg researches within the areas of communication and informatics, pedagogy and learning, and also education.

Education and Research at a Scenic Campus.
The University of Gävle has approximately 14 500 students, more than 50 study programmes and second-cycle programmes, about 1 000 courses in humanities, social and natural sciences and technology.

Research Profiles
Built Environment and Health-promoting Working Life are the general research profiles of the higher education institution. Important parts included are Spatial Planning with a specialisation in Sustainable Built Environment and Musculoskeletal Disorders with the purpose to prevent work-related injuries. In 2010, the higher education institution received permission to carry out third-cycle programmes in the profile area of Built Environment.
The higher education institution has applied for permission to carry out third-cycle programmes in technology, humanities and social sciences.
