Press release -

There is a lack of equality regarding health, and its increasing

Health  is a valuable asset and Gävleborg is a good county to both growup in  and live in. But at the same time as many have a good life there are  palpable differences in health between different social groups.

Social vulnerability means inferior health

Investigations show that people who live in vulnerable circumstances or have a lower social position also have poorer health.

The  social factors that influence our health are complex and demand a  general strategy of collaboration between different community  organizations, not only at a national level but even at the regional and  local level.

”The problem is that inequality is on the increase in Sweden despite all the contributions being made,” says Gloria Macassa.

Within the region

Within  the region there is a growing awareness of this, and a great deal is  being done to try and reduce inequalities, however more must be done to  reduce the gap.

“We know that there is inequality when it comes to health, but how much inequality and what lies at the bottom of all this?

Here  at the university we do research on employment and we know there is  inequality as far as that goes. But what is the most important factor,  how important is education and income?”

Researchers meet the workers

For the first time researchers meet those who work in the real world.

”We shall now have an initial discussion about how things look, what is being done right now and then the future”
