In vitro Plant-tech and Oriflame in collaborative partnership within plant stem cell technology

Limhamn, Sweden-October 2013In vitro Plant-tech, specialized within plant cell cultivation, and Oriflame, one of the world’s leading beauty companies selling direct, are now announcing their collaborative partnership within plant cell cultivation. The development is a plant stem cell cultivation platform, based on medicinal plants with proven beneficial skin care properties, with applications for the cosmetic industry. The partnership is part of a long-term strategic initiative and runs in addition to Oriflame’s in-house work at its plant stem cell cultivation facility.

In vitro cultivation enables sustainable production of high quality plant raw material. The plants are grown in a controlled environment and sterile conditions with full traceability. As a result of this, the plant raw material is high quality, free from pathogens, pesticides and pollution.

Dr. Anna Holefors, CEO of In vitro Plant-tech said, “We are delighted that Oriflame has selected In vitro Plant-tech as a collaborative partner for plant stem cell research and we are looking forward to successful outcomes of our collaboration. High quality, traceability and sustainability are important for us. We work with sustainability in three dimensions: environmental, economic and social sustainability”.

Facts In vitro culture of plants:

Also called micropropagation. It is a technique to mass-propagate plants, based on that every part of a plant carries all the information to form a new plant if appropriate conditions are applied. Whole plants, various parts of the plants and undifferentiated cells (stem cells) are cultivated on specialized nutrient medium under sterile conditions in a controlled environment.
