Stockholm Innovation Scholarship: 7 ​entrepreneurs awarded

Stockholm is one of the most innovative regions in the world. The winners of this year's "Stockholms stads innovationsstipendium" (City of Stockholm Innovation Scholarship), one of Sweden’s biggest, will be able to solve global environmental problems like leaks from gas pipelines, and make it possible for blind people to play in an orchestra. All of the recipients are contributing to progress in their industries and could become tomorrow’s Swedish export success stories. Seven recipients will share the SEK 600,000 prize money.

Emilia Bjuggren (S), Vice Mayor of Labor Market and Sports in the City of Stockholm, presented the City of Stockholm Innovation Scholarship to the seven recipients at a ceremony at Stockholm City Hall today. Karin Wanngård (S), Mayor of Stockholm, says the following on this year’s winners:

“Thanks to world-famous companies such as Skype, Spotify and Tobii Technology, Stockholm has taken its place in the international arena as a creative region. This award aims to support and recognize future exports from the city,” says Mayor of Stockholm Karin Wanngård (S).

Since 1985, the City of Stockholm Innovation Scholarship has been one of Sweden’s biggest awards for innovators – amateurs and professionals alike – and for many people, it has been the initial launch of a viable company. The goal is to promote creativity and entrepreneurship.

“When I met this year’s recipients, I was struck by the high level of quality. They all represent the future of their respective fields. From past years, we know the scholarship has provided forward momentum. One of last year’s winners has made that particularly clear: Joacim Westlund, who also won the Acceleration Scholarship with the Flic innovation last year,” says Karin Wanngård.

The scholarships are divided into seven categories that reflect Stockholm’s strongest industries. Here are the winners. See the explanations in the attached PDF file:

6. Cultural & Creative Industries: TactSense – Wu Jing, Ellen Sundh, Ric Wasserman, Runo Andersson, Jan Bengtson, Andreas Ahlin

7. Tourism Industry: Gearmondo – Gustav Brandt, Teodor Linder & Oskar Otterskog

About the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship

The Stockholm Innovation Scholarship is a prize for Stockholmers and is awarded in seven categories: IT & Telecom, Cleantech, Cultural & Creative Industries, Everyday Products, Services, Tourism and Life Sciences. In order to be nominated, the competitors must live or work/study in the City of Stockholm. The scholarships are made public during a ceremony at Stockholm City Hall on December 11. The scholarships are awarded by the Finance Department Commissioner for the City of Stockholm, Karin Wanngård.
