Kista Science City is continuing to show strong growth as an attractive region for entrepreneurs and students. The number of students studying IT courses at the Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University has risen by a full 33 percent. At the same time, the number of people employed by businesses in the region has risen by 4,000 to more than 70,000, with 25,000 working in ICT. This is shown by the latest statistics contained in the Trend Report 2011 for Kista Science City.
“These latest figures remain positive, and further reinforce Kista Science City’s position as Sweden’s growth engine,” says Sten Nordin (Moderate Party), Mayor, City of Stockholm. “Kista Science City appeals to both businesses and students, attracting a high level of expertise within the ICT sector in particular. Stockholm’s investment in Kista Science City is vital in order for Stockholm to become a world-class city.”
“It’s especially pleasing to note that the ICT courses at the Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University are attracting more and more students,” adds Anette Scheibe Lorentzi, CEO of Electrum Foundation and Kista Science City AB. “The ICT industry is growing at an incredible rate, and many companies are searching high and low for the right expertise. Kista Science City has become even more vibrant with the new Victoria Tower hotel, the growth of Kista Galleria and the new shops along Kistagången.”
