Voice Pick is the right way to go according to ELFA, one of the world’s leading supplier of customized storage solutions. Since early summer their warehouse in Västervik in Sweden has been using voice picking instead of pen and paper. It was a success; the positive result came directly.

Merit Consulting has together with Optiscan implemented the Voice Pick solution in ELFA’s warehouse in Västervik to improve efficiency and make the picking process more accurate. Merit Portal Supply Chain is a foundation to the voice picking solution and communicates directly with ELFAs business solution Infor M3.

“It´s great that we in this early stage can see that the positive effects are evident, both when it comes to efficiency and accurate picking” says Cecilia Tollemark, Project Manager Logistic.

The new way of picking orders has been well adopted among the users. The implementation of voice picking has created an environment where the users can focus easier; and of course it´s an advantage to be able to use both hands while picking. With direct communication between Merit Portal and our business system; Infor M3 has improved efficiency compared to paper lists that involves more time consuming manual work. Says Jan Brink, Transportation Coordinator Warehouse.

Elfa’s conclusion is that voice picking is the future to improve efficiency and get an accurate picking process.

What is Voice Pick:

In a voice picking warehouse, workers wear a headset connected to a small wearable computer; similar in size to a Sony Walkman, which tells the worker where to go and what to do using verbal prompts. Workers confirm their tasks by speaking pre-defined commands and reading confirmation codes printed at locations or on products throughout the warehouse. The speech recognition software running on the wearable computer 'understands' the workers' responses.
