Private to press: Announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize 2016

On Friday 7 October at 11.00, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2016 will be announced in Oslo.

The press conference takes place at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Henrik Ibsens gate 51, Oslo. It is open for media only and accreditation is required. Accreditation information and links to the accreditation portal are available here. Note: Accreditation ends Monday 3 October.

For anyone not accredited, there is a possibility to watch the announcement live on a big screen at the Nobel Peace Center at the City Hall Square, Oslo. Interested members of the public will be present, and are likely to accept interview requests if you want to focus on the public's reactions to the announcement. Wikimedia Norway is also present with a group of writers to conduct a live update about the new laureate(s) on Wikipedia. The announcement will be live streamed on our home page

Note: On Friday 7 October, at about 14.00, the blue room called the Nobel Field at the Nobel Peace Center will be updated and the new Peace Prize Laureate will be included. Photo-op and possibilities for interviews with the Peace Center staff.

The work on the 2016 Peace Prize Exhibition will start immediately after the announcement. If any media would like to follow the Nobel Peace Center crew during these first intense hours, please contact to schedule.

Saturday 8 October, the Nobel Peace Center celebrates the new Peace Prize laureate(s) with a rich program and an open day with free entry for all visitors.

The new laureate(s) is presented in our permanent exhibitions The Nobel Field and The Electronic Wallpapers. Junior Experts from the Children’s Peace Club talk about the new laureate to visitors in the morning. Some of these children may be available to the press if any requests arise.

There will be guided tours in Norwegian and English throughout the day. 

A lecture about the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize laureate(s) will be held by the leader of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Kaci Kullmann Five at 13.00 (in English). If your media outlet wants to show the lectures on your website, let us know, and we will share the embed code.
