Binero Group first datacenter in the world certified with Node Pole´s Fossil Free Data label

Fossil Free Data, the global label for sustainable data, has certified Binero's data center in Vallentuna. This makes it the first data center in the world to receive the new certification, which means that it meets strict requirements to be energy efficient, has low carbon dioxide emissions, and uses 100% renewable electricity.

Data is changing the way we live, and many see digitalization and increased use of data as climate-smart, but it also has a major impact on the climate; many of the world's data centers are still powered by fossil fuels. Today, data storage accounts for just over two percent of global carbon dioxide emissions and three percent of the world's energy consumption. This means that carbon dioxide emissions from data storage are at the same level as the global aviation industry, according to the science journal Nature.

The Fossil Free Data Label represents successful sustainability efforts for data centers that meet strict energy-efficient measures. The certification acknowledges that customers' systems and data are managed in a sustainable manner.

“It is incredibly exciting to have Binero certified according to this new standard. With its large share of renewable energy, Sweden is in an excellent position for sustainable data centers and Binero shows the way for more climate-smart data storage and use", says Patrik Öhlund, CEO of Node Pole.

“Binero has a well-developed sustainability strategy for our data centers, and we have invested heavily in energy recovery, energy-efficient technology, and cooling solutions - without sacrificing either technology, performance, or safety. On the contrary, we hold the highest-ranking there, too", says Charlotte Darth, CEO of Binero Group.
