Press release -

Optimizer Invest launches foundation to improve the living situation for children and youth

The foundation has been named Optimizer Foundation. It is a long-term commitment of the founders of Optimizer Invest to address social challenges in the sectors of education and health in favor of children and youth.

As the founders allocate significant resources to Optimizer Foundation, the foundation will be in the position to identify and support social organizations that present scalable solutions to social problems.

Geographically, the foundation will initially focus on developing countries and emerging markets where the funds of the foundation will have the greatest impact on the situation of the foundation’s target group children and youth. Currently, the foundation reviews opportunities in India and Eastern Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania).

Founders Henrik Persson Ekdahl, Mikael Riese Harstad and André Lavold:

"When we founded Optimizer Invest five years ago, we had big plans for the company. Now it's time to show the world how our vision is translated into reality. This is a venture we have dreamed of realizing for a long time. The Optimizer Foundation is a lifetime project that will remain for generations to come.”

The foundation is a Swedish non-profit foundation, which will be separately managed by an external board. All members of the board have extensive experience in both the world of business and the philanthropic area: Helena Riese Harstad (founder of the foundation and chairman of the board), Anne Stubert Partridge (COO), Catharina Belfrage Sahlstrand (Board member) and Alexandra Rosberg Hinxman (Board member).

Helena Riese Harstad, Chairman of the Board Optimizer Foundation:

"We believe that the traditional philanthropic sector can benefit greatly from applying an investment way of thinking. We are convinced that the expertise and approach that Optimizer Invest uses in identifying high potential companies to strengthen and scale up, with the help of capital as well as advising, can be utilized successfully for organizations with an explicit social focus. Venture Capital will through Optimizer Foundation, become Venture Philanthropy.”

The foundation will support social purpose organizations through donations, or in the form of investments through equity and debt, depending on the needs of the organization in question. Any return on investment, as well as repayment of loans, will be reinvested in a new social organization.
