Swedish bioenergy technology helping to mitigate earthquakes in the Netherlands

Press releases   •   Sep 03, 2019 08:25 UTC

Via VYNCKE's European customer base, the Swedish engineering company PetroBio has been commissioned to convert the energy production at the Dutch tomato grower Zonnekreek Tomato from natural gas to renewable bio energy. The extraction of natural gas in the Netherlands has caused the soil to collapse resulting in earthquakes. The bioenergy market can be significant in mitigating this trend.

Pine oil pitch - fuel conversion for Skanska's asphalt production

News   •   Jun 19, 2019 08:49 UTC

Skanska's road to sustainable asphalt production continues together with Petro. At two asphalt mixing plants, Skanska converts its production to run on pine oil pitch instead of fossil oil. Pine oil pitch is a residual product in the production of pulp. It is to be considered a rather "difficult" bio-oil. It needs to be heated to about 110 degrees during combustion and it must be at least 65 degrees when stored. It is also very aggressive so all parts that come into contact with the oil must be in stainless steal.

Without demand for neither steam nor compressed air and with low oil pressure, Petro Low Pressure Air Burner is a very good choice for pine oil pitch. It is also robust enough to handle the difficult environment of an asphalt mixing plant without any problems.

Petro has developed a whole product line for pine oil pitch, all the way from storage, via pump and heating unit to the burner. The entire system is specially designed to handle aggressive and thick oils like pine oil pitch.

British biomass hat-trick

News   •   Jun 19, 2019 08:46 UTC

Babcock & Wilcox Völund have won there third major contract for a biomass facility in the UK: a 40MWe waste wood biomass plant in Teesside including 15 years of operation and maintenance.

They have signed a contract for the delivery, operation and maintenance of a third major biomass facility, located in Teesside near Middlesbrough, on behalf of Glennmont Partners.

The biomass facility will be capable of using waste wood as fuel and will be generating 40MW of renewable energy.

The 40MWe scheme follows on from the biomass projects at Margam, Port Talbot in South Wales, signed in January 2015, and the Templeborough project in Rotherham, signed in March 2015. These schemes, when operational, will contribute 120MW of renewable energy in support of the growing need to develop and provide renewable energy in the UK.

For each of the facilities Völund has ordered two Petro Lance burners of 40MW per piece. That is the biggest lance burner ever delivered by Petro. With a swing out design and a protective door Petro Lance burner is very well suited for the harsh environment in a waste incineration plant.
