NEVER BEFORE SHOWN PHOTOS OF ABBA IN POP-ICON PHOTO EXHIBITION

ABBA the Museum at Djurgården in Stockholm is proud to present its first solo photography exhibition ‘ABBA by Calvero,’ a unique fine art collection of the best photos of ABBA, in full format, taken by the legendary rock and pop photographer Torbjörn Calvero. Many of the photographs have never been shown before, which is generating major international interest.

“I think that Agnetha and Frida, and the whole group, looked their best in around 1977 and 1978, when I worked with ABBA. Their different personalities worked very well together, which shows in the pictures,” Torbjörn Calvero is quoted as saying in the exhibition catalogue.

“I got to know Torbjörn in the late ‘70s when he had his photo sessions with ABBA and my single most favorite one of his pictures is the one where Frida and Agnetha are sitting on the roof of Benny and Frida's Storebro-boat. In the picture there is a lovely feeling of a warm bright summer night in Stockholm and he also managed to capture the personalities of Frida and Agnetha so well,” says museum director Ingmarie Halling.

ABBA The Museum is hereby initiating a series of ABBA-themed fine art exhibitions. In many ways starting off with Torbjörn Calvero and his photographs of the group is natural. The photos scream ‘70s Sweden, international stardom – and pure pop magic.

“I, myself, and many around me, grew up with Calvero photos. Not least from my mum’s Vecko-Revyn magazine, which I used to read on the sly throughout the ‘70s. It’s an honour to present Torbjörn Calvero and his unique ABBA photos here at the museum. Everyone should get a chance see the photos and experience the magic live,” said Mattias Hansson, one of the founders of ABBA The Museum and one of the initiators of the museum's focus on fine art.

Photographer Torbjörn Calvero will be interviewed by Mattias Hansson at the opening reception – which also marks when the photographs will be made available for purchase. From midnight and onwards on April 22, a strictly limited number of signed photographs will be for sale at www.abbathemuseum.com/shop.

The images will be on view during regular museum hours on the entrance floor of ABBA The Museum, Djurgårdsvägen 68 in Stockholm, over the summer, where the photographs can also be purchased.

All images from the numbered fine art series come in an exclusive packaging, along with a new 30-page full colour folder containing the amazing story of Torbjörn Calvero in his own words and memories from ABBA photo shoots.
