TURNING THE VISION OF A HOUSE ABOUT MUSIC INTO REALITY

In December, Björn Ulvaeus, in collaboration with partners Conni Jonsson and Pelle Lindberg, acquired the property Konsthallen 2 at Djurgårdsvägen 68 in Stockholm, via the new company POP HOUSE. The building houses three tenants: ABBA The Museum, Swedish Music Hall of Fame and Melody Hotel.

Now the group is also acquiring the Melody Hotel, again via POP HOUSE, from owners Claes Livijn and Henrik Engblom. The hotel, which contains 49 rooms as well as a restaurant, bar and event operations, opened at the same time as the museum in spring 2013.

The courtyard facing Djurgårdsvägen is a vibrant gathering spot for visitors from around the world, particularly in the summer time with an outdoor bar, restaurant, live concerts and events.

“Our goal is to completely integrate the three operations – ABBA The Museum, Swedish Music Hall of Fame and Melody Hotel – to make the vision of a house of music in Stockholm a reality,” said Björn Ulvaeus.

“We aim to create a dynamic house where everyone, both visitors from Sweden and abroad, feel at home. In addition to ABBA, the building showcases over 400 other Swedish artists. It therefore feels natural to work more with music in various forms on the hotel and restaurant side of things too,” said Pelle Lindberg.

POP HOUSE will assume ownership of the Melody Hotel on February 24. In order to facilitate a smooth transition, current owner Claes Livijn will stay on for an interim period.

More news updates from POP HOUSE will be presented on a regular basis throughout 2015. Make sure to follow our news releases by subscribing to our news service at MyNewsdesk.com.
