Shorter through-put times at Vuosaari
New Web clearance, an automatic lane and a self-service kiosk will shorten the through-put times and balance out peak periods at Vuosaari Harbour.
In late November 2011, Steveco introduced an automatic lane at the control point of the container terminal driveway at Vuosaari Harbour. A driver or driving coordinator can clear the vehicle on the Web, in the truck check Net service or at Gatehouse’s service desk, and drive directly to the hoisting area through the control point without having to wait.
In January 2012, a self-service kiosk was added to the Gatehouse, so the driver can clear the vehicle without having to go to the desk at all. The Web clearance and the kiosk will balance peak hours and, together with the automatic lane, shorten through-put times. In the long term, this will result in substantial savings in costs and more satisfied customers. The service desks will continue to operate alongside self-service.
At Vuosaari Harbour, about half of all customers clear their vehicle before driving to the harbour area and control point. Of the customers who clear their vehicle beforehand, 70–80% are already using the automatic lane, in other words 35–40% of all those entering the Steveco terminal.
– Traffic inside the harbour will be as smooth as possible, if customers do some work on the Web, at the kiosk or at the Gatehouse service desk, before driving to the harbour area, says Jyri Elomaa, who is responsible for container port information systems at Steveco.
