Helsinki’s record-breaking cruise summer draws to a close

Helsinki has had a record-breaking summer, when it comes to international cruise visitors. At the beginning of the year, the most optimistic forecasts said that the city might see as many as 400,000 passengers this year, but this number was already broken by the middle of September. This year, the summer season draws to a close with the arrival of the M/S Marco Polo in Helsinki on 29 September. After this, only two more cruise ships are expected to visit Helsinki this year. If everything goes according to plan, all 284 cruise bookings made at the beginning of the year will be fulfilled.

Interest in Baltic cruises is currently at an all-time high, with all of the main cruise harbours in the region receiving their share of tourists. Not only is the number of cruise ship visits at a record-breaking level, but the ships themselves have also been fuller than ever, thanks to the successful sales efforts of the cruise shipping companies.
