Kendal launches ‘local currency’ card in partnership with PRESEND and Miconex.

On September 10, Kendal Business Improvement District launched the Kendal Card, delivered by PRESEND Nordic and Miconex Ltd.

Kendal BID decided to boost the local economy by introducing a new town gift card. “Having taken the decision to introduce a town wide gift card, we decided on the partnership of Presend and Miconex as the best option for support and for quality of service and expertise,” says Sarah Williams, Kendal BID Manager. “The support from the businesses has been amazing, with over 100 businesses already signed up to the scheme, ranging from big brands to local niche shops.”

“We are delighted to be working with Kendal Business Improvement District to help implement a gift card programme for the town,” says Jon Sederqvist Østmoe, CEO at PRESEND Nordic AB. PRESEND provides card programs to 40 towns and cities across Scandinavia and the UK, with the Kendal Card one of several new programs to launch in time for this year’s Christmas sales.

“The Kendal Card acts as a local currency using the existing Visa infrastructure, so it's incredibly easy for businesses to get involved and accept this new form of payment,” says Colin Munro, Managing Director at Miconex Ltd. “The project will help to lock in spend for the local business community and provides a very strong alternative to single retailer gift cards. Whether you fancy Kendal mint cake, an afternoon’s worth of shopping, or an evening dining out, the Kendal Card is the gift of choice.”

Kendal Business Improvement District is in its 3rd year and contains nearly 700 businesses in its membership. Kendal is a town internationally renowned for its production of Mintcake, a sweet made from sugar and mint. It is also known for its quaint cobbled streets, array of fabulous shops and its location close to the Lake District National Park.
