Every four year there is a WADA World Conference, and this year Johannesburg hosted the event. The milestones of this conference were the following: 1) The new revised WADA Code was settled. 2) End of term for WADA Presidency and Vice Presidency (Prof Ljungqvist). 3) Sir Craig Reedie was elected as the new WADA President.
The Foundation for Global Sports Development honored Professor Ljungqvist for his lifelong work against doping by announcing him as the receiver of the Foundation’s Humanitarian Award. An official award ceremony, including handing over of a monetary donation to the Professor Arne Ljungqvist Anti-Doping Foundation, will be held at the Olympic Games in Sotchi in February 2014.
The IOC 125th Session carried out four major milestones: - Professor Ljungqvist was officially stepping down as Chairman for IOC Medical Commission - President Jacques Rogge stepped down from the position as President of IOC - IOC Member Thomas Bach was elected as the new IOC President - Tokyo was elected as host city for the 2020 Summer Olympics
