Swedish artists to perform at music project in Berlin

Now it’s official that the rapper Queen C and the two pop bands Melby and OX will perform in Berlin when Die Neuen Schweden is held in August. For the fourth consecutive year, three Swedish artists, chosen by a jury, get the opportunity to meet with and perform in front of industry people in Germany. This year, Record Union stands as co-host to the initiative, which has been founded by the Swedish student association Sensus and the German event company Nordic By Nature.

For the fourth consecutive year, Swedish student association Sensus and German event company Nordic By Nature are arranging the music project Die Neuen Schweden in Berlin. For three days, three Swedish artists will get the chance to meet with German industry people to make new contacts. The third day ends with a performance showcase in front of industry people and music fans at Urban Spree in Berlin.

- Die Neuen Schweden aims to give Swedish artists an introduction to the German music market, and maybe also act as a global leapboard in the long run. Germany is Europe’s best live market and it feels really great that we can give a number of artists the opportunity to get an introduction to the industry, says Johan Sigerud, Operations developer within music at Sensus.

Close to 130 artists applied to participate in this year’s edition of Die Neuen Schweden. The selection of artists was, for the first time, made by a jury with representatives from Sensus, Nordic By Nature, Record Union and profiles within the German music industry: Annett Scheffel at Musikexpress, Melanie Gollin at FluxFM, Daniel Gerhardt at SPEX, Erin Coleman at Paper and Iron Booking and Torben Hodan at Diffus Magazine.

The jury agreed on sending the rapper Queen C and the pop bands Melby and OX to Berlin in August. All artists are active with new music and both Queen C and Melby are releasing their music via Record Union, who are co-hosting the initiative for the first time.

- We’re really happy and proud to be a part of Die Neuen Schweden. This collaboration is in line with our vision to help more artist to create music and to make the music industry more transparent, accessible and democratic, says Johan Svanberg, CEO and Head of artist development at Record Union.
