Europe’s largest Salvador Dalí exhibition visits Stockholm

A successful collaboration between Stockholmsmässan, the City of Stockholm and Mollbrinks Konst has made it possible to bring the largest exhibition to date of Salvador Dalí’s bronze sculptures to Stockholm on February 14–17 in parallel with the Antiques Fair. The three largest sculptures – one of which towers five meters high and weighs in at three tons – are already on display in the middle of Stockholm for all to view until February 17.

A total of around 40 of Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí’s (1904–1989) sculptures will be displayed in the exhibition, which is the largest in Europe. In addition to the three giant sculptures within the city, four other large sculptures and around 30 smaller sculptures will be on display at the Antiques Fair, which is organized by Stockholmsmässan. All of the sculptures are for sale.

“I am proud of how we have been able to display the largest Dalí exhibition ever to be arranged in the Nordic region. I am convinced that it will be well-received, not just at the Antiques Fair, but throughout all of Stockholm,” says Göran Ekberg, Event Manager for the Antiques Fair.

The City of Stockholm is also involved in the exhibition and, for example, has made it possible for the three monumental sculptures to be placed in central locations within the city: Kungsträdgården, Norrmalmstorg and Brunkebergstorg.
“It is unusual and a lot of fun that an organization like Stockholmsmässan is ‘moving into the city’ and wants to invite the city’s residents to this type of event,” says Roger Ticoalu, Head of Department Events at the City of Stockholm, and continues:
“This was a unique opportunity that we had to take advantage of, and it is impressive that these giant sculptures by one of the greatest artists in the history of the world can be found in the middle of the city!”

Johan Hauffman, Exhibition Manager at Mollbrinks Konst in Uppsala, came up with the idea for the exhibition and also contacted the Swiss owner of the sculpture exhibition, which is called The Dalí Universe.
“Bringing one of these monumental sculptures here is difficult; bringing three at the same time is almost impossible. They are usually only exhibited individually in the largest cities around the world,” explains Johan Hauffman, who is a specialist in Salvador Dalí.
What do you find so special about Dalí’s sculptures?
“I have always liked surrealist art, and what is particularly fascinating about these sculptures is that all of them have hidden messages and symbols. I think they are fantastic!”

The three monumental sculptures in downtown Stockholm:

Persistence of Memory, Brunkebergstorg. Height: 5.0 meters. Weight: 3,000 kg.

The Nobility of Time, Kungsträdgården. Height: 4.9 meters. Weight: 1,350 kg.

Woman Aflame, Norrmalmstorg. Height 3.6 meters. Weight: 500 kg.

We would like to thank our partners that has made this exhibition possible:
Rexel, Grabber Premium Quality Screws and Arne Thuresson Byggmaterial AB.
