Record-congress and congress record at Stockholmsmässan this summer

Two international congresses are coming: one that is bigger than ever and one that has combined five different meetings for a record-long ten-day event. Where? At Stockholmsmässan, of course, the largest meeting venue in Scandinavia and an experienced host of conferences and congresses of all types.

Tomorrow it is once again time for a large, international congress at Stockholmsmässan, and delegates from many different countries are streaming to Sweden’s capital. This time it is the European Hematology Association (EHA), which is holding its annual congress in Stockholm for the third time. Around 11,000 people are expected to participate, and, in addition to the large number of delegates, the congress has surpassed its previous record for the number of abstracts submitted and the size of its poster exhibition where scientific advancements are presented. The parallel exhibition at which firms active in the area exhibit their products is also larger than ever.

“The fact that international congress organizers choose to return to us time after time is the best confirmation we can receive of not only Stockholm’s attractiveness as a city but also of Stockholmsmässan’s competitiveness as a venue. It is a considerable challenge to ensure that all the details surrounding such a large congress fall smoothly into place: travel, hotels at a reasonable distance, lots of parallel seminars over a period of four days, good opportunities for networking and relaxation, etc. But we are experts at this, and the organizers know that. They feel confident when they work with us,” explains Isabelle Lechtman, who is responsible for congress sales at Stockholmsmässan.

“We have chosen Stockholm as the place to welcome our participants and partners, to share EHA’s vision towards an excellent, ecologically and socially sustainable congress. Stockholm as the first-ever city designated as the European Green Capital, with the world’s leading sustainable airport Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and the Stockholmsmässan, an ecological and socially sustainable meeting place. We as EHA, have made significant efforts to work in a sustainable way, but also to create a social atmosphere where people meet, connect, and take care of each other. By working together, we all contribute to the progress in hematology research, education and ultimately patient care, and the congress venue plays an essential role in this”, say Carin Smand, EHA Executive Director and Rik Craenmehr, Executive Manager, European Hematology Association.

However, EHA is not the only large meeting that will be held at Stockholmsmässan this summer. Three weeks after the last hematologist has gone home, the venue will be filled again with another type of scientists. This time the subject will be artificial intelligence, and what is normally five different conferences at different locations has been merged into a ten-day AI festival.

“This will be a Federated AI Meeting, with five different conferences that in five different ways highlight the area of artificial intelligence and machine-learning. And then they will hold the World Computer Chess Championship! We find it all very exciting, and it is another record for us – I don't think we’ve ever had a meeting that lasted ten days before,” says Isabelle Lechtman.

One of the meetings at Federated AI is being arranged by the Swedish AI Society (SAIS), whose president Fredrik Heintz is an associate professor at Linköping University.

“We are proud that we are able to arrange several of the leading international scientific AI conferences at Stockholmsmässan. Together, they are expected to draw more than 5,000 of the world’s leading AI researchers to discuss over a period of ten days the most recent advances within AI,” says Fredrik Heintz.
