Zandra Rhodes recreates her colorful home at Formex

Formex has always created an exciting exhibition in the Entrance Hall, and this time is no exception – the exhibition will offer “extra everything”! Legendary designer Zandra Rhodes, who is visiting Formex as a Guest Influencer, will create a truly unique exhibition that includes a replica of her own home. We can promise visitors lots of color, humor and nods to many of her designer colleagues and celebrity friends.

Zandra Rhodes is 78 years old and will celebrate 50 years as a designer next year. She lives in a penthouse in the center of London – right above her own Fashion and Textile Museum in a converted warehouse. The first thing she did when she moved in was paint a giant rainbow that stretched across the floor and up the walls.

“I love this building, but the apartment was completely white when I moved in, so I thought, ‘Why not paint a shimmering rainbow?’,” she says.

In other words, it is a colorful home that celebrates life, filled with memorabilia she has gathered over her long career. She will now recreate her home at Formex.

“I will bring the best from my rainbow penthouse and add wonderful, colorful objects from Formex’s exhibitors.”

Her signature look for many years has been her bright pink hair, and this color is often included in her designs, preferably paired with bright orange. The same colors dominate her museum, which was designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Legoretta. Color has always been a distinctive feature in her design, and she is happy to see that it is now coming back into style.

“Color is on its way back; I see it everywhere. Which is great – colors make people happy! It affects our mood more than we know.”
