Josef Frank’s world of prints on display in his hometown Vienna

“Manhattan”, “Brazil”, “Himalaya” and “Teheran”.The names of Josef Frank’s signature prints mirror his global mindset. Svenskt Tenn now exhibits Josef Frank’s world of prints at Salon BelleArti in Vienna, the Austrian town where he was born in 1885.

Right now, the largest exhibition ever made of architect-designer Josef Frank’s work is showing at the MAK – Austrian Museum of applied arts in Vienna. Svenskt Tenn accompanies this event by exhibiting “Josef Frank’s world of prints” at Salon BelleArti in the same city.

“In his fantasy, Josef Frank travelled the world and was inspired by different places and cultures,” says Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Director at Svenskt Tenn. “About 40 of his 200 prints are in production today and at Salon BelleArti we are showing some of these. This exhibition makes it possible for visitors to explore the world of prints that is Josef Frank’s legacy.”

In the same building, two floors up from the Salon, Svenskt Tenn’s Interior Design Studio has furnished a two-room apartment that is open to the public. The apartment consists of a living room and a study, both decorated in the spirit of Josef Frank.

“We have used furniture, textiles and lighting from Svenskt Tenn’s range to create a warm and homely atmosphere in the apartment,” says Thommy Bindefeld. “The interior was conceived with individual, human needs in mind. For example, chairs, couches and armchairs form seating areas suited for different occasions during the day, just as Josef Frank advocated.”

The exhibition runs from February 19 through March 17, 2016. Lectures, readings, and open discussions will be arranged at Salon BelleArti and in the apartment.
