Svenskt Tenn and Fornasetti exhibition in Stockholm now open

Svenskt Tenn’s collaboration with Italian design house Fornasetti started in the 1940s and lives on to this day. Now the two companies come together for an exhibition that runs at the Svenskt Tenn store in Stockholm through March 30.

Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) was an Italian painter, sculptor and interior decorator, renowned as one of most original creative talents of the twentieth century. Today Piero Fornasetti’s son, Barnaba, is perpetuating the tradition. In the Fornasetti atelier, the techniques used to make the very first products are still in use. Color is applied by hand and the original paper patterns are preserved.

Svenskt Tenn’s founder Estrid Ericson and Piero Fornasetti began working together in 1946 when
Fornasetti produced the ‘’Stockholm Plate’’ – still available in the range – for Svenskt Tenn. It is decorated with a Stockholm map image designed by Josef Frank. In conjunction with the exhibition, a new plate with the same décor is released in a special edition limited to 100 items. Price SEK 1,800.

Svenskt Tenn is the exclusive Fornasetti dealer in Sweden – wallpaper and textile excluded. For the exhibition, around one hundred products that complement the store’s regular range have been selected. All are for sale.

The exhibition runs February 4 – March 30 in Svenskt Tenn’s store at Strandvägen 5 in Stockholm.

Svenskt Tenn was founded in 1924 by designer and drawing teacher Estrid Ericson (1894-1981). In 1934, she began her lifelong collaboration with Josef Frank, already an internationally well-known architect, urban planner and designer, who had recently left Austria to take up residence in Sweden.

Together, the two laid the foundations for the interior design philosophy that Svenskt Tenn has since come to represent, combining Estrid Ericson's artistic talent and entrepreneurial spirit with Josef Frank's inspired and timeless designs to form what was soon to become a highly successful concept. Svenskt Tenn is owned by the Kjell and Märta Beijer Foundation.
