Svenskt Tenn launches the mirror Fauna by John Astbury

Ever since graduating from the Konstfack University College of Arts and Design in 2011, John Astbury has been part of the international design scene. Now he presents the three-dimensional – or perhaps four-dimensional – mirror Fauna, designed exclusively for Svenskt Tenn.

’’The inclined mirror reflects both the frame and the surrounding space, creating a geometric play on the eye. One gets the impression that there is an extra dimension which is reflected in the mirror,’’ said Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Director at Swedish Tenn.

The name Fauna was inspired by the myth ’’Fauna of Mirrors’’, which tells of a world of creatures that exist hidden behind every mirror.

The materials used are simple and the craftsmanship solid. The height is 180 cm, width 50 cm and depth 31 cm. Price SEK 10,500.

John Astbury was formerly part of the design group Whatswhat, whose ceiling lamp Greta also is available in the Svenskt Tenn range.

Svenskt Tenn was founded in 1924 by designer and drawing teacher Estrid Ericson (1894-1981). In 1934, she began her lifelong collaboration with Josef Frank, already an internationally well-known architect, urban planner and designer, who had recently left Austria to take up residence in Sweden.

Together, the two laid the foundations for the interior design philosophy that Svenskt Tenn has since come to represent, combining Estrid Ericson's artistic talent and entrepreneurial spirit with Josef Frank's inspired and timeless designs to form what was soon to become a highly successful concept. Svenskt Tenn is owned by the Kjell and Märta Beijer Foundation.
