Svenskt Tenn opens Christmas market featuring 90 years of design

The annual Christmas market now opens at Svenskt Tenn, brimming with desirable gifts and timely ornaments for the upcoming holidays. Among the featured items for this season, nearly a century of Scandinavian design is represented – from an all-new pewter box by Norwegian designer Marianne Andersen to Nils Fougstedt’s pewter casket, a vintage creation dated 1927.

''Repeating their success from last year, Carina Seth Andersson and Jakob Solgren have designed this season’s Christmas ornament collection. This includes several new pendants for the popular Tree of Wishes and a stunning handmade brass front door wreath, put together from nearly 1,400 tiny jingle bells'', said Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Director at Svenskt Tenn.

Another new item in the 2017 Christmas collection is the Gömma box, which comes in two sizes, designed by Marianne Andersen. She is a 2013 graduate from the School of Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway, now active at the Anderssen & Voll design studio. Gömma is a small two-piece box with a cup-shaped top for stuff that may be visible, and an inner closure for special things.

Returning to Svenskt Tenn with a new appearance is the pewter candle holder Gala, with matching large cuffs in green and clear glass available separately. Gala was designed back in 1990 by Ulla Christiansson. Then made from silver-plated brass, it remained in the range into the new millennium. Christiansson, a graduate of the Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, today works as an independent furniture and product designer.

Some 45 years earlier, as Josef Frank had just returned to Sweden from an extended stay in New York, he drew the small, round shaped 2070 cabinet in mahogany, which is now reentering the range. And you have to go all the way back to 1927 to trace the origins of the beautiful pewter casket designed for Svenskt Tenn by the sculptor and craftsman Nils Fougstedt. Originally, it featured decor by Svenskt Tenn founder Estrid Ericson, while the new version instead has a blank space for an optional monogram or other custom engraving.

Svenskt Tenn’s Christmas market opens with new seasonal collection

The annual, abounding Christmas market is now open at Svenskt Tenn. Scents of carnation and cinnamon flow from the Tea Room, and on the tables in the store gallery, a collection of Christmas ornaments for the new season designed by Carina Seth Andersson and Jakob Solgren, is showcased together with Christmas gifts by Eric Ericson, Josef Frank and Eva Schildt.

This year’s Christmas at Svenskt Tenn offers an unconventional colour palette where yellow, pink and blue tones are mixed with traditional red and green elements and classic Svenskt Tenn materials. Gathered here are Sam Wilde’s fruit-inspired Garden of Eden Christmas collection, Maja Sten’s Milky Way, and advent stars in timeless Josef Frank prints.
