Press release -

Continued development towards the climate-smart airports of the future

Passenger volume at Swedavia’s airports increased somewhat during the period January-September, but the third quarter saw a continued deceleration in traffic growth. For the nine-month period overall, Swedavia reported an operating profit of 666 million Swedish kronor. The results were presented in Swedavia’s interim report, which was published on Friday.

During the quarter, more than 11 million passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s ten airports, which is the same level as last year. International traffic increased while domestic traffic continued to decrease. For the nine-month period, 32 million passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s airports, an increase of almost one per cent.

"Overall, passenger growth continued to decelerate, and during September passenger volume was down 2 per cent compared to last year. We do not see the same trend elsewhere in Europe," says Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia.

Swedavia’s net revenue for the nine-month period totalled 4,424 million kronor (4,279), while its operating profit increased to 666 million kronor (774). Operating profit was positively affected by 55 million kronor attributable to the earnout from the sale of Säve Airport. Costs for rent, the effects of winter, IT and airport protection and security had a negative effect on profit. For the third quarter alone, net revenue totalled 1,511 million kronor (1,452), while operating profit was 335 million kronor (355).

During the quarter, Swedavia initiated a transformation programme, which is aimed at making the company’s operations more efficient and creating better conditions for achieving the company’s long-term goals.

The work with Swedavia’s development programmes, which are aimed at meeting the capacity challenges for air traffic today and in the future, continued during the quarter. An important milestone was reached with the decision made on the path to be taken in the continued analytical work for the long-term development of Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
