New record – 26 million passengers at Arlanda

This week, Stockholm Arlanda Airport reached 26,000,000 passengers, which is the new record at the airport. This is an increase of 8 percent, 1.9 million passengers, compared to the same period in 2016. The record was noted by Chief of Passenger Services Anna Ericsson who met the record passenger before the departure at Arlanda.

This week, the 26 millionth traveller Anna, together with her children Tilde and Ture, passed through the security check point in Terminal 5 and was met by Anna Ericsson, Chief of Passenger Services at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

May 24, 2017 this year, was a record day at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, a day when more than 100,000 passengers travelled to or from the airport, a number of passengers that had never before travelled in one day. Since 2010, passenger development has increased by 62.5 percent, from 17 to 26 million travellers. The development of new routes has also been positive during the year. By 2017, 33 new international routes have been established at Arlanda, of which 28 are new European routes and five routes to intercontinental destinations.

"We have had a fantastic year with an impressive number of passengers who chose to travel to and from Swedavia airports. I am very glad to be able to end the year with this passenger record at Arlanda. At the same time as passenger growth is at an incredible rate, it is also important that we continue the work of our extensive development projects to ensure good accessibility, sustainable and efficient airports in the coming years," says Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport will be the leading airport in Scandinavia, an airport ready for future travellers - offering flexible and inspiring travel experiences, a leading meeting place and an international role model when it comes to sustainability. The result of the development programs is increased capacity, more shopping and restaurants, more hotel and congress facilities, and even more destinations.
