Press release -

Forget the genes, you are what you eat

Amsterdam, Netherlands, February 27, 2018 – A person’s ability to shed weight depends on eating a healthy diet and cold-shouldering processed foods and sugary drinks and not on his or her genetics, according to a new study by researchers at Stanford University in the US.

After logging the weight, body composition baseline insulin levels and daily fat or carbohydrate consumption of 609 participants over a 12 month period, the team concluded that the fundamental strategy for losing weight is about changing the relationship to food and following either a low-fat or a low-carb approach.

“This study provides clear evidence that just telling people to ‘eat less’ is not the way to achieve positive weight loss. The smart solution is to eat less sugar and refined flour and focus on eating as many vegetables as you can combined with whole foods such as grass-fed beef,” said Jan Alderlieste, European managing director of Tanita, the world leader in body composition monitoring.

Mr. Alderlieste said Tanita’s own research has demonstrated how mixing thoughtful eating with physical exercise can play a key role in loosing weight and sustaining the loss through a healthy lifestyle.

He adds: “People serious about transforming their body need to focus on building muscle, staying hydrated and reducing body fat. And that’s why a Tanita Tanita body composition monitor is essential to help you understand the true impact your diet and fitness plan is having on your body.“
