Press release -

82% more Chinese guest nights in Stockholm in January

The first month of 2017 saw a rise in the total number of guest nights, which were +10% from the previous year. In addition, Stockholm has a strong position in the Chinese market with this significant increase.

International visitors to Stockholm accounted for an increase of +10%, while national visitors accounted for +11% in January, compared to 2016. China constitutes the largest increase, with +82% more commercial overnight stays.

“This is a positive development that demonstrates that our efforts are paying off. The tourism industry is incredibly important to job creation and growth here in Stockholm,” says Karin Wanngård (S), mayor of Stockholm.

“Visit Stockholm has long been working to position Stockholm in the Chinese tourism market, and the results we’re seeing now provide excellent motivation for continuing our efforts,” says Thomas Andersson, CEO. “We hope to collaborate with the hospitality industry in this undertaking. The Chinese New Year was in January, and we’re starting to realize how important it is to position Stockholm in other markets – ones whose holidays and festive seasons fall at other times of the year than our own. It’s also significant that Arlanda now offers a non-stop flight to and from Hong Kong, and it’s crucial that we continue to establish more such direct connections.”
