Overnight stays in Stockholm: 13 percent increase in September

Stockholm continues to grow strongly. In September more than 1.2 million overnight stays were made in accommodation facilities in Stockholm County, which is an increase of 13 percent. The largest increase came from foreign guests. A total increase in foreign overnight stays in the county with 25 percent.

- The tourism industry is becoming increasingly important in Stockholm and this shows in a continued strong growth. It also demonstrates that the investments we are making to market Stockholm and to strengthen our attractiveness produces results. It is particularly pleasing that the number of foreign guests increased dramatically and that organizations selected our city for their conferences and congresses, says Karin Wanngård (S), Mayor of Stockholm.

The focus on attracting large international congresses is one of the reasons for the successes during September.

- During September, Stockholm hosted the Diabetes Congress, EASD, with more than 18 000 delegates during five days. It is proof that our region is competitive as a location for large meetings and conventions, says Karin Mäntymäki, acting CEO, Stockholm Visitors Board

The biggest percentage increase came from outside Europe, with an increase by a total of 30 percent. Most international overnight stays came from Stockholm's largest foreign markets, Germany (+ 24%), followed by the UK (+ 16%) and the USA (+ 7%).
