Press release -

Stockholm to host world’s largest AI conference

This July, Stockholm and Sweden are hosting the Federated AI Meeting (FAIM) – the world’s largest scientific event on artificial intelligence. For the first time, five world leading scientific AI conferences are gathered under one roof. The conferences will take place at Stockholmsmässan on July 10-19, gathering more than 5,000 international experts, scientists and engineers.

For almost 50 years, the world’s foremost scientific conference on artificial intelligence, International Joint Conference of Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), has been held annually in various cities around the world – once before in Stockholm. When the Swedish AI Society, with support from Visit Stockholm, was granted to host the conference for a second time, a plan was set in motion to create a larger event week with several of the leading scientific conferences in the field gathering in Stockholm. The result was the Federated AI Meeting – the world’s largest event on AI. The conferences will take place at Stockholmsmässan on July 10-19, gathering more than 5,000 international experts, scientific scientists and engineers in the artificial intelligence field.

It is unique to be able to bring together so many of the world’s leading AI researchers in one place to present the latest scientific advances. The fact that we can make this happen in Sweden shows that we are well respected in the scientific community, and offers a fantastic opportunity to present ourselves to the world, says Fredrik Heintz, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Linköping University and President of the Swedish AI Society.

The world’s most prominent scholars, scientists and engineers within AI and machine learning will be at Stockholmsmässan to present the latest findings in the field. In tandem, there will also be a large exhibition with world leading industrial companies like Ericsson, IBM, Alibaba, Tieto, Adobe, Recorded Future and Microsoft showcasing their latest technologies. The 2018 World Computer Chess Championships will also be held in conjunction with the FAIM.

The congress taking place in Stockholm means that many more scientists, students and PhD students from all over Sweden will be able to attend and present their own research. It’s quite a feather in the hat for the city of Stockholm to have so many prominent AI researchers convening here. This brings a sharp focus on Stockholm as a destination, as well as on the AI research happening all over Sweden, says Karin Mäntymäki, Director Sales & Operations, Visit Stockholm.

The Federated AI Meeting (FAIM) takes place at Stockholmsmässan on July 10-19, hosted by the Swedish AI Society. FAIM, which is being arranged for the first time, is the world’s largest scientific event on artificial intelligence, made up from five international conferences: The International Joint Conference of Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), which this year is held jointly with the European Conference on Artificial In (ECAI), The International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), The International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS) and The International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning (ICCBR).
