Qualisys Releases Oqus 7+ Sun Filter, with initial results proving very successful.

For the last 30 years Qualisys has been a leading provider of motion capture technology, supplying research, engineering and sports facilities with the products and know-how needed for capturing and analysing movements. Its current Oqus 7+ model has been the flagship product not only for Qualisys as a company, but for the motion capture industry since 2013.

Motion capture users first recognized the robust nature of the Oqus series camera line when it was released as one of the most reliable outdoor infrared cameras. Since the release of the first outdoor Oqus, the engineers at Qualisys have mastered the art of motion capture in any given environment, from subzero temperatures, to wet and rainy conditions with the IP67 protected hardware design, and even gave the user the ability to fully submerse motion capture cameras to measure the motion of underwater vehicles, mooring lines and even swimmers’ form.

The company is now making the next step in outdoor motion capture. Now, there is never too bright of a day to capture outdoors. The Swedish engineers have developed a solution which optimizes the cameras performance in instances of extreme sunlight.

“Our new Oqus 7+ Sun Filter allows our customers to get out of their facilities, to make studies and measurements without limitations,” mentions Magnus Berlander, CTO at Qualisys, “ Data quality for measurements made with the Sun Filtere under extreme sunlight is improved to such a degree that it makes the difference between a failed and a successful capture session. It also reduces the amount of work needed for post-processing to a similar level as for indoor measurements.”

The main featureof the entire Oqus 7+ range is the ability to calculate marker positions with highly impressive accuracy and speed. Hundreds of markers can be measured at thousands of frames per second with ten, fifty or even more cameras – and what’s more it can be run off an ordinary laptop. Moreover, no workstation or switch is required, enabling ease’ of use out in the field and a set-up time of just 30-40 minutes.

With the new package Qualisys can provide the same high-end solution even in the most extreme light conditions, appealing to all kinds of outdoor sports, animal tracking etc. The possibilities are endless!

Dr Kim Hébert-Losier from The University of Waikato in New Zealand, being one of the first to test this new feature admitted, “I was extremely impressed by the outdoor capabilities and the high sampling frequency of the system with several National Sporting Organizations having already expressed interest in using the system.”
