Scandinavian major Svensk Filmindustri and French power house Studiocanal enter a new strategic distribution and production alliance

Svensk Filmindustri (SF) and Studiocanal have entered a strategic partnership alliance, effective immediately.

The agreement includes an all rights, output distribution deal for SF on all new Studiocanal films on the Nordic market (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland) and the digital distribution by SF of Studiocanal catalogue titles.

The deal also comprises co-production based on English-Speaking Nordic feature films and TV-series from SF properties, aimed for the international market.

SF will handle the Nordic markets for these co-productions and Studiocanal will distribute them internationally.

Studiocanal‘s feature film line-up for Nordic distribution by SF includes titles like Paddington, Shaun the Sheep, Our Kind of Traitor, Macbeth, Legend, Bigger Splash (Untitled Pantelleria).

In terms of feature films coproduction, two projects are currently being developed: Easy Money (Snabba Cash), the English language remake of the Swedish 2010 box-office hit and the Ibiza set thriller The White Island, to be directed by Cannes, Berlin and Sundance winning director Jens Jonsson.

SF and Studiocanal are also developing two high quality TV-series – the thriller The Lawyer, based on a story by the script writers Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) and Michael Hjorth (The Condemned) in cooperation with Easy Money top selling author Jens Lapidus.

The second one is the drama series The Ambassador, with a story by the internationally bestselling and acclaimed novelist Henning Mankell.

The feature film and TV-series projects are planned to go into production in 2015.

“We are thrilled to deepen our relationship with Studiocanal. We have been looking for a strong international strategic production/distribution partner for some time and Studiocanal, with its international repute - strong line-up of films, powerful distribution arm and a very ambitious and exciting production strategy - is a perfect match for us.

We have already a great partnership with the very professional team at Studiocanal and with this alliance I strongly believe that both our companies will be able to further strengthen and develop our opportunities on the Nordic and the international markets”, says Jonas Fors, CEO of Svensk Filmindustri”.

“Svensk is a major player in the Nordic region, and a longtime partner, so we are thrilled to be working more closely with them. This is also exciting to be signing an output deal between two major European companies, confirming the strong international profile of our movies”, said Romain Bessi, COO of Studiocanal

“I am really happy to be partnering with Svensk both in distribution and production as I believe this is the best way for us to strengthen our strategy of working with the best talents in the Nordics, and further enhance what we achieved through our partnerships, either in TV with Søren Sveistrup, Adam Price, Meta Louise Foldager in Denmark or in feature film with Tomas Alfredson, Susanne Bier, and Tobias Lindholm on feature films”, said Olivier Courson Chairman and CEO of Studiocanal.
