New functions for field information, 3D handling and mapping in the new version of Topocad – Topocad 14.4

Topocad version 14.4 is now released by the company Adtollo. It is estimated to be the last 14.x version of Topocad. In 14.4 Adtollo introduces new functions for field information and 3D handling.

The big news in Topoad 14.4 when it comes to field information is a command that shows deviations from terrain models and the input from the Topocad Field module. They are shown through green and red arrows in the drawing together with numbers that indicate the deviation from the position on the field in comparison to for example a terrain model.

Another new function enables viewing the map in three dimensions (both in cross section, plane, side and other selectable view) while being positioned on one section.

”We’ve built in several functions for handling data and views from machine guidance and field data direct in the drawing. Thanks to modern handheld units it is now fully functional bringing the drawing in total out on the field and getting immediate control of your field data in the computer”, says Tomas Sandström director of Surveying & Mapping department at Adtollo.

”The new section view is amazing and you can open up 1, 2, 3 or 4 views at the same time, viewing your position interactively from different directions. Now that we’ve started getting data in 3D it is exciting sweeping through the environment from different angles and at the same time being in full control”, Tomas Sandström adds.

Constructing a map in 3D

”It is a current phenomenon for many to construct their maps in three dimensions. With Topocad 14.4 we’re coming up with a new command that automatically creates areas on vertical objects in relation to terrain models or point clouds. Those who i.e. have a digitized ridge can use the tool to create the facade surfaces in 3D – directly in the drawing. The command is quick and effective and will create manageable surfaces from terrain models”, states Tomas Sandström.

New functions for mapping and topology verification are also introduced in Topocad 14.4. You can now edit and save geo referenced images and the topology verification now handles closed polylines in two different manners.

”The new topology verification is semi-automatic. It verifies lines that are almost closed by comparing them to one or more external points. It also commits a self-check where the automatic connection function is used”, says Tomas Sandström.

The verification can be semi-automatic or completely automatic and results in areas without gaps. It is a rapid function that is easily overlooked.

“It gives mappers a tool that solves the problems with gaps in areas”, Tomas Sandström concludes.
