From oak forests in Slavonia, northern Croatia comes a premium quality flooring collection in hardened wood which is being presented at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair. Bjelin starts production in Croatia where traditional craftsmanship and material know-how is combined with cutting edge technology from Swedish Välinge Innovation.
Bjelin’s subsidiary Välinge Innovation has developed a technology for producing an extra durable flooring surface called hardened wood. The new material efficient oak flooring is being produced in Viken in the southern swedish province of Skåne. The investments in production capacity in Sweden and Skåne is driven by increased demand for premium products with minimal impact on the environment. The oak comes from Slovenia, a region with a long tradition of forestry which safeguards regrowth. Here the well-kept old oak forest grows straight with few twigs.
The new technology makes the production process considerably more material efficient. Hardened wood covers 20 times the floor surface compared to parquet flooring made with conventional technology since the material layer can be very thin without being brittle. The surface is hardened under high pressure and heat, creating a material four times as hard as the original oak. The surface is then treated with hardwax oil which combined with the hard wood material, makes for an almost maintenance free flooring.
– We are proud to offer a practical and beautiful premium oak floor collection with up to 28 cm wide oak boards for both the home and public spaces to a very competitive price, says Marie Nordengren, Product Range Manager at Bjelin.
The technology behind the new collection is also available to other flooring manufacturers, under the brand WooduraTM by Bjelin’s technology development company, Välinge Innovation.
The new floor collection can be experienced in Bjelin’s booth A27:32 at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair and in Bjelin’s newly opened showroom at Sibyllegatan 38 in Stockholm, Sweden.
