Press invitation: How can Stockholm strengthen its global competitiveness?

Pressmeddelande   •   Apr 19, 2016 10:06 CEST

On April 22, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce with the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of Brookings and JPMorgan Chase, will convene a discussion on what Stockholm can learn from other global cities in pursuing an internationalization strategy for the region. Come hear presentations from Chicago, London, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and San Diego on how they’ve worked to expand their global reach and what Stockholm can learn from that.

Within the next decade, nearly 60 percent of the world’s population will live in urban areas, and just 600 cities will generate more than 60 percent of global growth. This shift is creating completely new challenges and opportunities, particularly for a country like Sweden.

Dozens of city-regions are now pursuing their own creative strategies to strengthen global economic connections and competitiveness. Regional coalitions of business and government, and civic leaders are collaborating to compete globally by expanding their traded industry sectors, increasing exports, and attracting more foreign investment.

The Stockholm Chamber of Commerce recently launched an effort to develop a global business strategy for the greater Stockholm region. The work is being conducted within the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase.

Coffee and breakfast will be served during the seminar.

The representatives from the cities are:

San Diego:
-Nikia Clarke - Director, World Trade Center San Diego

Chicago:
- Andrew Spinelli - Director of Global Strategic Initiatives, World Business Chicago

Minneapolis:
- David Griggs - Vice President, Business Investment, Greater MSP

London:
- Andy Davison, Principal Advisor for International Business, London & Partners
- Supti Sarkar - International Business Manager U.S., London & Partners

Date: Friday 22 April 2016
Time: 08.00-09.30
Venue: Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Brunnsgatan 2, Stockholm
