Half of Swedish population pays with mobile

The very popular Swedish mobile payment service Swish for paying person-person is now expanding into eCommerce.

Today over half of the population, over 5 million or 51%, are using the service and it's by far the most used mobile payment service in northern Europe, including the UK. In August only, over 4 billion SEK was paid via the service. Authentication of a payment is done via the even more popular and by far the most used authenticaion method in the country, Swedish Mobile bankID.

The Swish service is soon to be rolled out to also be used as a payment method doing eCommerce transactions. The timing is interesting though a few Swedish banks and with the same timing, will roll-out their new MasterPass based digital wallets also to be used in eCommerce.
