GöteborgsOperans Danskompani awarded with prestigious national critics’ award
It is with great pride and joy we announce that GöteborgsOperans Danskompani has been awarded The Swedish Theatre Critics’ Association’s Dance Prize 2017, following a vote among the country’s theatre and dance critics. This is the first time the prize has been awarded to a whole dance company.
The motivation was as follows:
"With its focus on new choreography and advanced artistry, Göteborgsoperans danskompani has placed itself at the pinnacle in Europe. In productions such as this year’s Kult, the individually brilliant dancers form a powerful, expressive collective that surpasses all expectations. Both audiences and critics alike rejoice as the dancers offer breath-taking new perspectives on their artform."
– We’re immensely honored and happy about this prize, since discerning critics have acknowledged us from amongst fierce competition. We are especially proud that the award goes to the whole company, where every dancer is an astounding, unique artist and an indispensable link in the chain. It is also recognition of the dedication we have to our vision, which is to strive even further artistically while receiving an incredible response from our audience. A beautiful confirmation that both audience and critics appreciate what we have accomplished, says Katrín Hall, Artistic Director for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
The award ceremony will be held in connection with the world premiere of S & S on 3 March, which will feature the new creations Autodance by Sharon Eyal and As it were by Sang Jijia.
GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is one of Europe’s largest and most prestigious contemporary dance companies. The repertoire of 2017 – which included work by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Sharon Eyal, Ohad Naharin, Damien Jalet and Roy Assaf – was a great success according to both the critics and the box office. The company tours regularly and performs at the world’s premier venues.
