The Göteborg Opera finalist in the 2019 International Opera Awards

The Göteborg Opera has been nominated as one of six finalists in the “Opera Company” category at the International Opera Awards. Rodula Gaitanou, currently working in the house, is also nominated in the “Director” category.

Stephen Langridge, Artistic Director at the Göteborg Opera, says:

“To be in the final six of all the opera houses in the world with this nomination is something to celebrate. At the Göteborg Opera we pride ourselves on team spirit and ensemble work, so to be nominated in this category feels perfect. That Rodula Gaitanou – who directed our fabulous Ariadne auf Naxos last season and currently is working here with us – has been nominated as Best Director, and that Paolo Fantin – the designer of our Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci double bill – is also nominated triples our excitement. Now we’re waiting for the final results in April!”

Founded in 2012, the International Opera Awards is an annual celebration of excellence in opera around the world.

Rodula Gaitanou, finalist in the Director category, is currently working at the Göteborg Opera directing the revival production of Damiano Michieletto’s original production of Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci which premieres 9th of February. She says:

“It’s wonderful to receive the honour of a nomination based on the recognition from the industry and your colleagues. I am very, very excited – thrilled – not just for my own sake but also for The Göteborg Opera. This is a fantastic company to work with, both regarding the quality of the work and the shows that are produced. Directing Ariadne auf Naxos here last year was one of the highlights of my season, and it’s a pleasure to be back to deliver a fantastic evening of theatre with Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci.”

Paolo Fantin, designer of Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci is nominated as Best Designer.

The winners of the 2019 International Opera Awards will be announced at a red-carpet ceremony on Monday 29 April.

The Göteborg Opera has previously (2016) been nominated in the “World Premiere” category for the opera Notorious (2015).
