HPV screening and the increased need of colposcopy

Yesterday we arrived back in Sweden after a fantastic week in Beijing, where we attended the AOGIN conference and had an oral presentation of the Swedish Gynocular study. The lectures were very interesting – especially on HPV screening, and we also had an opportunity to visit Dr. Fei, Lead Colposcopist at the Colposcopy Department of the Beijing Union Medical College Hospital.

Many women will test HPV positive and with the new FDA approval of HPV for cervical cancer screening, there will be an increased burden on the health care system for evaluation and subsequently, an increased need of colposcopy. How will this need be met most cost-effectively?

I guess this will be discussed in the May IFCPC meeting in London.
