Building on experience – new participants start the Executive MBA

As organizations grow and change with the times, so do their leaders. 48 new MBA participants have just started their Executive MBA at Stockholm School of Economics.

January 27 marked the first stage of an 18-month journey for a new group of MBA participants at the Stockholm School of Economics. 48 participants are enrolled in the SSE MBA Executive Format 2020 program, an intense learning experience that prepares them to build, lead and develop organizations. The program is designed for working professionals who, with the support of their employers, work full-time while pursuing their degrees.

The participants come from a broad range of industries, have experience from different academic fields and come from diverse cultural backgrounds. "This is a great foundation for rich discussions and learning from each other, one of our educational cornerstones," says Karin Wiström, Director SSE MBA.

Out of this year's participants, 40 percent are women, 42 percent have a background other than Swedish, with 13 countries represented in the group. The average age is 40.
"The experience in this group is very impressive, so we look forward to working with them over the next 18 months," adds Wiström.

Projects for positive change

As part of the SSE MBA Executive Format, all participants carry out a series of live projects in their respective organizations. These are projects that create positive change and measurable value for the participating organizations and hands-on learning for the participants.

"After visiting the faculty and meeting the course leaders it became clear that the EMBA in Stockholm was the best fit for my goals. The MBALive format appealed to me, as one of the key criteria that I had when choosing which school and program to apply to, was how the course would give me the theoretical background and help me integrate it with real world management challenges," says Joel Flitton, Vice President Exploration at Svenska Petroleum Exploration AB.

Other organizations represented in the group include ABB, DBSchenker, Genesis Reproduction Center, Hitta.se, IAM Gold Corporation, ICA, Kiilto Oy, Min Doktor, Monki, Nordea, Orexo, Rockton, Scania, Siemens, SSAB and many more.
